Sagebrush are a key component of sagebrush steppe ecosystems, but not much is known about how their productivity and carbon storage might change in response to climate change. In this video, Harmandeep Sharma shares her research measuring carbon and water fluxes in sagebrush. She is studying how these fluxes differ across both sagebrush species and different elevations within the Reynolds Creek watershed. Her work will help other scientists at Reynolds Creek predict how the carbon storage of the whole ecosystem might change as the our climate shifts. To conduct her research, Harmandeep uses sap flow sensors, which track water movement within the sagebrush in real time.
